I've long been a fan of this sui generis man, ever since I happened on his weekly column in the Financial Times decades ago.
He shared how he decides to say "Yes" or "No" to opportunities:

"Two out of these three have to trigger for me to say "Yes":
1. KNOWLEDGE: Will I learn something?
2. FUN: Is is fun?
3. MONEY: Is it financially worthwhile?
He says "No" a lot more than "Yes."

Bonus Altucher which I have used to great effect ever since I happened on it:
"The best way to decline a request is to simply say these four words: 'I can't do it.'"
