Remind me when my time machine comes back from the shop not to go to England next year.
How you spell dystopia?
I happened on an ancient DVD box with this 2006 movie inside; the cover reads:
The year 2027:
The last days of the human race
No child has been born for 18 years
He must protect our only hope
That's as good a summary as any, but it doesn't begin to tell you how gripping, frightening, and plausible this alternative future appears in the hands of Mexican director Alfonso CuarĂ³n, 20 years after I first saw it when it came out.
Unexpected: Michael Caine has a major role, playing a former hippie living in a hidden forest in his own private British Idaho.
I'd completely forgotten until the credits rolled that the film is based on a 1993 novel by P.D. James.
You can rent the movie here.
