This post was occasioned by my having read earlier this week in the Guardian about McEwan's new novel, pictured above.

Clicked over to Amazon as soon as I saw the headline, without reading the review.

In general I prefer to not read reviews of books, movies, and shows that I want to read/see.

How do I know I want to read/see them?

See above re: books; a quick skim of reviews of movies/shows I know nothing about.

I'm fortunate in this respect in that my short term memory's gotten so crummy I'll have long forgotten the thrust of the reviews by the time I get around to watching the movies/shows.
