From Marginal Revolution:

In 2024, the entire neuronal diagram of the fruit-fly brain – some 140,000 neurons and 50 million connections – was mapped. Later research showed that the map could be used to predict behavior. Now, Eon Systems, a firm with some of the scientists involved in the fruit-fly research and with the goal of uploading a human brain, has announced that they uploaded the fruit fly brain to a digital environment.
The digital fly appears to behave in the digital environment in reasonably fly-like ways. According to the scientists this is not a simulation: the fly's "sensors" are being activated by the digital environment and its neurons are responding. More details here.
Hi Joe, love your blog (and your old blog! I never got through all of it)
ReplyDeleteI have a problem with the formatting of this new blog. The default font size seems to be 6 pixels. Magnifying the page makes the page become wider than my screen. This is a style sheet type problem; I hope you can set the software to make the font bigger (or better yet, do not allow the page to get wider than the browser screen).
Here is the style for a paragraph: it contains "font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"
Thanks much if you can fix it!
All the best.
I also have a problem with the formatting of this new blog: it's VERY difficult and painful to use Blogger compared to Typepad: posts take 2-5 times as long to create and NEVER look exactly like I intend. With my complete lack of technical skilz your observation about the "style sheet" go way over my head. This: "font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;" might as well be in Urdu. However — I will try to increase the default font size.
